Let’s Talk Lashes
Lash Extentions
Lash Extensions are a semi-permanent procedure involving the adherence of faux mink lash fibers to the natural lashes. Kaitlin, a lash artist at Glance Spa and Salon, is giving us the lowdown of all things lashes today. Everything from the differences from extensions to lash lifts and tints and important information to know before your first lash appointment.
There are two types of lash extensions, Classic and Volume lashes.
Classic Lashes are one denser lash fiber connected to each individual lash. This is a good go to if you are wanting more of a natural outcome. They are also good if you are wanting to test the waters of the lash extension world because they are a lower price point. ($250 for a full set and $75 for fills.)
Volume Lashes are 3-8 more light weight fibers formed into a fan to create a more feathery dimension. Volume lashes are very versatile in that they are great for someone with fewer natural lashes to adhere a full, beautiful look, or they are customizable to create much bolder transformations. Volume lashes are an advanced certification service and the fans are a combo of premade and handmade, therefore full sets are $350 and fills are $100.
Everything To Know Before Your First Appointment
Lash extensions are perfect for anyone wanting instant gratification with their lash look. There is nothing better than waking up and looking fresh and ready to take on the day.
It should be known that with lash extensions comes maintenance. Fills should be done every 2-3 weeks. Natural lashes (like the hairs on our heads) are always growing and shedding, therefore the lash exentsions gradually shed out with the natural lash. The shedding phases varies from person to person. There are a few pointers and things to avoid to keep the best retention possible.
Things To Avoid When Getting Your New Lashes:
Getting lashes wet within the first 48 hours
Saunas
Steam rooms
Excess swimming/sweating
Waterproof mascara
Pulling/tugging on the lash extensions
The use of oil based products around the eye area
Spray tans 48 hours before or after lash appointment
New Habits To Adopt:
Cleanse the eyelashes/eye area with Xtreme Cleanser at least 2 times a week: Failure to cleanse properly can result in blepharitis (inflammation of the eyelids) and in some cases, lash mites. So CLEANSE, CLEANSE, CLEANSE!
Pre-book your appointments: There is nothing more frustrating then needing your lashes filled (like yesterday) and there is no availability for weeks! So pre-book so we can regularly see your beautiful face
Sleep with a silk pillowcase: Normal cotton pillowcases are abrasive and downright RUDE to your hair, skin, and lashes
If you are sitting at home thinking “Woah, these sound like a little too much maintenance for me, but I still want beautiful enhanced lashes.” Then the lash lift and tint might be for you!
Lash Lift & Tint
A lash lift and tint is the perming of the natural lash to make them curl, so you don’t need to use those pesky eyelash curlers anymore. Once the lift is completed, you can then tint them to give them a darker, bolder appearance.
The whole process takes 45 minutes to 1 hour and costs $80
The lash lift lasts about 8 weeks and the tint lasts around 4; therefore we say maintenance is around 6-8 weeks .
Caring for the lash lift and tint is very simple.
Avoid getting them wet for 24 hours
Use lash conditioner 1-2 times per week; we have the fabulous Jane Iredale Lash conditioner that we recommend you use.
Feel free to use mascara, as it just makes them that much more gorgeous!
