Get to know: Jessica Tergesen
Jess is celebrating EIGHT years at Glance this year. We are so lucky to have this passionate, funny, and innovative woman be a part of our team! Today we celebrate Jess and her journey in the beauty industry to get her to where she is today; and maybe we will just learn a new thing or two about this coffee loving book worm!
When Jess is not at the salon she is staying busy with her FOUR kiddos!
Jess, who do you look up to most in life?
“Well, that would be my papa. He passed away in 2012 and there still isn’t too many days that go by that I don’t think about him. He was such a kind man and never thought twice about helping out anyone around him. Him and my Grandma also took me on a lot of trips and sparked my love for jumping in the car and just GOING!”
Jess, you wanted to be a counselor when you grew up, how did you get started in this industry?
“I do not have the typical “I wanted to do this my whole life” type of story. I never cut my barbies hair, and heck - I didn’t even wear makeup or really do my hair the majority of my high school period. I had always wanted to help people, be a counselor or a teacher or do something that I was going to make a difference. I got pregnant while I was in high school and although my parents were very supportive I felt like I had to do something nontraditional before starting “normal” college so I could support my daughter and I. So, with out having ever gotten a pedicure in my life, or wearing a speck of makeup I enrolled in hair school because it was only a year long and I felt like I was creative, artistic, and right brained enough to be able to do it… so, I DID!
I had an absolute blast in Hair school and met some fantastic people, but I still knew that I wanted to pursue college so, I DID! Long story short, I never felt like I belonged into this industry until I started working at Glance. Now I have been here 8 years and I get to be a stylist, therapist (LOL), teacher, writer, and MORE all wrapped into one career! I am so thankful that I trusted Gods plan for my life and didn’t listen to what I thought I knew.
Jess provides all hair services at Glance and loves to do cuts and colors that make people feel good about themselves. You know what they say about a woman that is ready to cut her hair… she is ready to change her life.
Jess is part of the marketing team and is also the Education Director at the salon and assists with hiring. She oversees our internal trainging program and is super passionate about pouring knowledge into new stylists so they can be the best the can be!
One of the highlights of Jess’s carreer has been working with Brittany backstage at Miss America in Atlantic City!
